I was unable to watch Lazy Susan in 2016 due to a clash with
a teaching day, this I forfeited my ticket to a good friend - later on he would
recount what was one hell of a show - there was something about a recurring
blue unicorn and dream like dancing during a day dream sequence which sounded
utterly hilarious - I wanted to make sure I didn't miss them this time round.
This is a frenetic, slick hour of sketch comedy. Smartly
they’ve got a variety of sketches to vary the pace and keep our attention
without overwhelming us.
Lazy Susan are a duo who work tremendously well together –
both are Northern and there is a distinctive Northern flair to some of their
ideas, in particular the over-caring, worried mother who checks in on the show
from time to time – my Yorkshire friend was particularly tickled as it was
apparently the spitting image of his mother’s phone calls to him.
There’s a nice running joke of one of them seducing a front
row audience member as the other naps on stage, as well as some intrusive
flies, which culminates into the show highlight for me: an operatic Italian fly
bemoaning the death of her many many sons – I damn near lost my mind when that
sketch played – look out for the creative costume design.
Sketch comedy so often fall flat, but this show is exemplary
of top notch sketches.
